Save Orphans Ministries - Malawi Africa
Save Orphans Ministries is a non-profit Christian organization with community based programs and is registered by the Government of Malawi. Save Orphans Ministries was started in 1996 by a student, Justin Majawa, who was at the time in his second year at African Bible College in Lilongwe-Malawi-Africa. Save Orphans Ministries is a member of Evangelical Association of Malawi and Council of Non-Governmental Organization of Malawi and has a board of trustees.
One year after the set up only five orphans were supported and by October 1998, 200 orphans were reached. To date more than 6,000 orphans 400 caregivers are benefiting from the organization's programs with our Bible Clubs reaching 15,000 children who meet once every week. SOM works in partnership with Malawian villages, many of which are remote and not adequately served by government health care, education, or communication services.
In 2005, Hope Endeavors partnered with Save Orphans Ministries to establish the HIV/AIDS Rehabilitation, Feeding and Orphan Care Center in Ntchue, Malawi. (photos)
The purpose of our project was to:
-
Establish an Orphan Care Center to keep, feed, and give medicines to children who are dying of AIDS as well as offering supplementary Christian lessons. This program also will offer voluntary counseling, testing and early intervention.
-
Provide Nutritional Support, ARV’s, Food and Vitamins, while their caregivers will be trained on how to administer drugs and vitamins, and how to plant and process crops into nutritious foods. They will also be trained in making herbs into medicines that help boost the depleted immunity system of the AIDS children.
-
Mobilize the Church and Community by being an awareness outreach to inform and mobilize the local church to help provide for the spiritual and physical needs of those dying of AIDS.
-
Evangelism through Bible clubs. These Bible clubs will be a place for cheering up AIDS children and help them deal with stigma, giving them the hope that is in Christ. Orphan caregivers will go through a Family Enrichment Bible program that will help them with skills on how to raise children well.
Construction of the Care Center has been completed and there are 110 Children meeting at the center each weekday to receive nutritious food, educational instruction as well as singing and playing together. Additionally, 40 children living with AIDS are also being cared for as they come to the Center twice a month to pray, play, to receive food and lessons. We are currently raising monthly operational support so that the Center can begin to provide residential care 7 days and week, 24 hours a day. (photos)
Construction of the Kitchen is underway and we are currently raising funds to complete and equip the Kitchen.
The last phase of our project will be the construction of Medical Clinic to serve not only the Care Center but the entire District of Ntchue.
Hope Endeavors also has many Hope Giving Projects which offer additional ways to be the Hands and Feet of Christ to the children of Malawi.
Together - we can reach this challenge and so doing give health and hope to not only 40 more suffering children, but to the entire District of Ntchue.
