Hope Highlights  - Summer 2010

Dear Friends of Hope Endeavors,

Having just returned for the Philippines on a medical mission with the Aeta Children’s Home and Youth with a Mission, I would like to thank you for your support of our partners and projects.  Hope Endeavors projects bring hope to those in need in very tangible ways as a result of your partnership and contribution.

We are excited to see how God is using our partnerships with Save Orphans Ministries in Africa, the Aeta Children’s Home and the Outreach Pastors in the Philippines to show God’s love to the very needy in our world.

Aeta Children’s Home, Glory to God Outreaches and Christian Medical Clinic – Zambales, Philippines

In May, our team of 12 Indiana Wesleyan University Nursing students, lead by myself and their Professor Jerilynn Spring traveled to the Philippines to provide Medical Clinics with our partners at the Aeta Children’s Home and the Glory to God Pastors.  It was a wonderful time of fellowship with our partners as we provided medical care to 6 tribal villages and 2 clinics in the slums of Manila.

In addition to the medical clinics, food and relief goods were distributed to each of the villages.  We were also able to bless the ACH with two pigs after they lost theirs to the drought.  Working hand in hand with the Pastors, the staff of the ACH and with Dr. Immanuel of the Christian Medical Clinic, we were able to show God’s love in real and tangible ways to the tribal Aeta’s.

During our visit the ACH lost one of their former students, Gideon, to TB and Malaria.  This was a very sad and sobering experience for the team as we witnessed an all too common part of the Aeta life, which is the passing of their children.  Through the ACH, the team was able to provide for Gideon’s burial and funeral service in addition to praying with family as they mourned.

As we share this ministry with you and the ACH, we are looking to help provide for the ACH’s most recent needs.  The first is to provide support for the ACH’s two newest students – Matthew and Lukas.  The second is to provide for a rice field and the third is to provide support for two new Aeta Bible Outreaches in Olpoy and Banaba. These outreaches are pioneered by Aeta pastors, Henry and Harvey.

I have included Pastor Wilson most recent update so you can hear his heart for the ministry and for his gratitude for your partnership.  To God be the Glory!

Outreach Pastors –Tipo, Minanga, Roosevelt, and Bangal  - Philippines

In April, the Outreach pastors held their 2st Annual Youth Camp which was a great success with nearly 300 youth being in attendance.  The pastors report that they are seeing dramatic changes in their youth and increased numbers in attendance at their youth meetings.

Currently, we are supporting 4 Pastors and their families.  They are Pastor Fidel in Tipo, Pastor Noel in Bangal, Pastor Carlon in Roosevelt, and Pastor Marty in Minanga.  In May, we were able to purchase the land for Minanga’s outreach church in Laplap – Praise God for His provision.

This year we are working on a student sponsorship program with the outreach churches to provide funding for school supplies, uniforms and transportation expenses.   Information will be available soon on our website.

Save Orphans Ministries – Malawi, Africa

Through our partnership with Save Orphans Ministries and the Orphan Care Center, 12 children with AIDs are now receiving residential, daily care at the Care Center.  An additional 40 children are enrolled in the Therapy program and are receiving daily treatment.

In addition,

  • 78 children are meeting at the Center each weekday to receive nutritious food, educational instruction as well as singing and playing together.
  • 52 children living with AIDS are being cared for as they come to the Center twice a month to pray, play and to receive food and lessons through a new program called Friends for Life.

Now that the Center is providing daily care, we need to build a house for the caregivers and the Nurse on site.  We are praying to raise $10,000 for this project by yearend.

We are still looking for additional monthly partners to join us in providing for the Orphans Care Center and the programs operating through it.  Together - I have faith that we can reach this challenge and in so doing give health and hope to more suffering children.

In addition to Caregiver house and the Monthly Sponsorship of the Orphan Care Center, we are continuing with Buckets and Blankets of Hope and our Vitamins and VitaMeals Project.

Buckets and Blankets of Hope are distributed to families caring for HIV/AIDs patients through home visits and are filled with very basic necessities, such as cooking oil, rice, corn, toothbrushes, soap and towels.  We have seen first hand the testimony of a young boy with HIV who was once very ill but through SOM’s home visit program he received life restoring ARV’s, medicinal herbs and nutrient enriched food.  Each Bucket of Hope can be provided for $20 and for just $10 more, a blanket can be included to bring comfort and warmth to an ill child. We have also provided 100 Bibles in the Chichewa language to be included with the Buckets to bring the hope that is in Christ.  Buckets and Blankets of Hope is just another way we can show God’s love.

The Vitamins and Vita Meal Project was also started to respond to these very real needs of the children of Malawi.  For as little as $15, you can provide a child with a month supply of life restoring VitaMeal.  Vita Meal is a nutrient enhanced porridge that helps not only satisfy their hunger but also boosts their immune systems.  In addition to VitaMeal being provided through the Care Center programs, Bulk Vitamins are also being delivered through our shipping container project.

Shipping Container Project

May 15th was an exciting day for our shipping container project.  In partnership with the Rotary Club of Marysville, Wadhams Baptist Church,  Woman’s Life Insurance Society Club 777, Little Dresses for Africa and the Marysville National Honors Society, we unloaded the container, inventoried and repacked the container for shipment.  Final paperwork is being processed and the container will be on its way to Malawi any day now.   The container is filled to the brim much needed supplies to be sent to Save Orphans Ministries.  This project will provide the following:

  • Over 100 Bikes and a motorcycle to provide transportation for the SOM worker’s,
  • 3 Playground set and Rehabilitation Equipment
  • Kitchen Equipment
  • Books for the Community-based care centers,
  • 20 Toolboxes, 35 Computers and several Sewing Machines for the vocational school,
  • Medicines and Medical Equipment for the HIV/AIDS Therapy and Orphan Care Center.
  • Vitamins and Vitameal for the children receiving care through the Orphan Care Center
  • Little Dresses and Blankets for the orphans and much more!

Please pray for the safe and secure arrival of the container!  Once it has arrived and cleared customs, we will be sending a team to assist in the unloading, distribution and setup of equipment.

Please pray for Save Orphans Ministries as they continue to serve our Lord and show God’s love to the children of Malawi.  Also, consider what God may be calling you to do as His hands and feet.

Thank you for your prayers and support in changing children’s lives.  Knowing that with your help – Hope endeavors until there are no more tears.

God Bless,

Darcy McLane
